The
Devil and Butterscotch Gaye

written, animated,
and directed by
benjamen purvis

Before his career in editorial design, Benjamen Purvis created a darkly whimsical animated short, The Devil and Butterscotch Gaye.

Winner of multiple festival awards, the film introduced Purvis as a young artist already fluent in tone, atmosphere, character and mythology.

This early work already contains the elements that now define Purvis’s writing–a fascination with moral fault lines, elegant visual architecture, and a narrative voice that blends classical form with contemporary bite.
