Benjamen Purvis is a graphic designer with a background in writing, filmmaking, photography and illustration. He lives with his wife Rosa, their English Bulldog Raleigh, and their British Shorthair Mason.
1999___ Animated student film screens at festivals in New York City, Colorado, Washington and Las Vegas, winning awards for Best Animation, Best Original Story, Best Special Effects, and a special award "For Pushing the Envelope of Creativity."
2000___ Hired to design ads for free alt-weekly publication Las Vegas Weekly, despite never having studied design.
2002___ Promoted to editorial Art Director of Las Vegas Weekly. Personally photographed or illustrated more than 225 covers, despite never having studied photography or illustration.
2009___ Hired as Art Director of city magazine Seattle Met, despite never having visited Seattle.
2011___ Hired as Creative Director of Men's Journal magazine in New York City, despite having no national magazine experience.
2012___ Featured speaker at the 36th Annual City and Regional Magazine Association (CRMA) conference, despite never having attended a design lecture, let alone spoken at one. The 90-minute presentation covered his "meteoric rise" (the brochure's words) from no-budget to big-budget magazine design.
2012___ Hired as Design Director of Runner's World, the world's largest running magazine, despite knowing nothing about running.
2015___ Purchased an 1899 fixer-upper, despite never having renovated a home. Has spent every free moment over the past two years researching, YouTubing, patching, stripping, painting, repairing, updating, building and, of course, spending. (Instagram hashtag #1899bricktorian.)
